Tokyo – Green tea

In Japan green tea is everywhere: bottled version (pure, unsweetened, without added flavour) is available from vending machines in virtually every corner of the city, it is served hot and cold in restaurants, used as a condiment in sweets, etc.

Matcha (the powder variety) is extremely popular.

It should be properly enjoyed this way…

…prepared by a lady like this…

… and it would be best to drink it in a traditional teahouse, like this one:

Alternatively, they have matcha latte at Starbucks, and I have become a big fan of it.

  1. I am a big tea fan. One thing I have notices is that the United States is the only country that takes tea or coffee on the go. Everywhere else that I’ve been enjoys the drink while slowing down and enjoying life. I think we have a lot to learn.
